Design – 7.0
First looks with the phone are not impressive, Most of the Asus phones look same from the front. Same kind of laser cut finish and a plain back. The good point is Volume adjustment is placed on back, just below the camera.
Zenfone 2 Laser is available in black, white, silver, gold or red and it measures 10.8 mm in thickness. It weighs 170 grams and it’s basically the same size as the ZenFone 2. Back is plastic but by looks it gives the feel of Rubber.
The handset is bit heavy weighing 170 gm and with a thickness of 10.8 mm. The Smartphone is bit bulky to hold but it’s curvy body will always remind you of Moto G 3rd generation. But one good point, it’s very comfortable to hold the smartphone becoz of curves. Moreover, the back cover is not easy to remove.
Summary : Not easy for one handed operation and from back looks are not premium.
Display – 8.0
Laser is equipped with 5.5″ HD Display and comes with anti-fingerprint technology and protected by Corning Gorilla Glass 4.
In Display, we were not satisfied with the Colors and brightness, but when it comes to finish and protection, The phone is sturdy and for long term because of CG4. In this price range, it’s almost impossible to find a smartphone with CG4.
Regarding 178º viewing angle, Display was not impressive as it became bit black while viewing.
Performance – 8.0
Equipped with Snapdragon 410 Octa Core processor with 1.2 GHz coupled with 2 GB LPDDR3 RAM and 16 GB inbuilt memory ( 10 GB User memory ).
Quadrant : 23281
Antutu : 36912
Nenamark : 58.6 fps
Geekbench : 2605 / 647
Basemark X : 10471
Though the Benchmark results are not at all impressive, but the phone operated smoothly on multiple windows and we have not faced any lag specially duwring the gaming like Riptide GP2 or Ninja or Temple run. Moreover, the best point was cooling. Laser 2 reached a temperature of 37.6 degrees Celsius when playing the games.
The smartphone runs on Zen UI with Android Lollipop , and there were no issues faced with the UX. The only issue was lot of upgrades may be because of inbuilt apps. The dropdown area features notifications, a brightness slider and Quick Settings shown as big bubbles. Settings include Zen Motion (gestures like double tap to wake up and draw letters to open up apps).
Camera – 8.8
Laser 2 is equipped with 13 megapixel Rear Camera with f/2.0 aperture and a Toshiba sensor. For darkness, camera is supported with Dual LED, Dual Tone flash and Laser Auto-focus with a time of 0.3 secs.
Not to forget, Camera is equipped with Pixel master Technology and 5 P Lens. Selfie is also equipped with f/2.0 and wide angle lens of 67°.
Best part is Manual Mode for Camera which includes white balance, ISO up to 800, exposure, optimization (auto, off, manual), resolution (13 MP in 4:3 or 10 MP in 16:9), anti shake, quality (standard, fine), time stamp, shooting (touch or non touch), timer, burst, focus (smart AF, continuous AF, infinity), metering (center, average), video (white balance, exposure, resolution that can be HD or Full HD).
Camera Modes Include -
- Super Resolution
- Low Light
- Depth of Field, Effect
- Time Rewind
- Smart Remove
- All Smiles
- Slow Mo and Time Lapse
Summary : This camera can easily compete with big flagships when it comes to closeups, courtesy of the Depth of Field mode. Colors are realistic and focus is ultra fast.
Battery – 9.0
Don’t be surprised if Rating is high in battery. Two key points , Removable Battery and 3000 mAh rating. Good enough to last for 12 hours on continuous Video Play back and almost 3 hours 25 minutes for full recharge.
Laser 2 offers dedicated Power Settings, like Power Management, with Power Saver battery modes such as Performance, Balanced, Smart Saving (reduce brightness, deactivate push apps, extend standby) and Ultra Saving Mode.
Conclusion – 8.2
Seeing the price range of Rs 9999, The phone offers a lot of features which we can expect in the range of 15-20 k. A smartphone which is worth purchasing if you are low on budget. The only compromise you need to make is in Video shooting which is slightly shaky. Another good point is the big battery backup.
The real comparison can be Lenovo K3 and Yureka plus which lack lot of features like CG4, Laser Auto-focus and Manual Mode.
