Blackberry Messenger gets Video Calling Capabilities

Blackberry Messenger is finally getting a feature that has been sought after for quite a while now and that new feature is video calling capabilities. BBM users should be getting the  update sometime this week. However at the moment Blackberry is limiting the availability of  BBM Video calling to Android users in the US and Canada. Before you jump the gun however keep in mind that it’s still in beta so there may be bugs. To use the app you still need to be running android 4.4 or above. There are no hoops to jump through to use the new feature. You simply start a call with another BBM contact and the app will ask whether or not you want to try out the video calling beta feature. Of  course the person you are contacting must meet the requirements in order for it to work.

Blackberry thinks that the timing of releasing this new video calling feature is just right, citing that the number of US adults making video calls from their rose from 33 to 47 percent between 2013 and 2015.” says Android Authority.

You will be able to use the new video calling feature once you update the BBM app to the latest version assuming you live in North America. Blackberry says that Android users will be able to video call with users with iOS user soon. The option is scheduled to be scheduled to be available for everyone around the world sometime in July.

If you don’t have BBM on your android device yet then you can get it from the Play Store for free.
