Gmailify : How to link Yahoo mail or Outlook to Gmail

gmail-logo

From 2015r, lot of users have been able to access email from other providers, like Yahoo! Mail or Outlook.com, in the Gmail app on Android. However, lot of users wanted the features of  Gmail’s in Yahoo or any other email, like spam protection and inbox organization, on these accounts—but don’t want to go through the hassle of changing the email address.

So starting today, if you use Yahoo! Mail or Hotmail/Outlook.com, you now have the option to Gmailify your inbox. Gmailify links your existing account to Gmail so that you get all the bells and whistles—spam protection, inbox organization and even Google Now cards based on your mail—without having to leave your current address behind.

All you need to do is open the Gmail app, sign in to your email account(s), and enable Gmailify. And of course, you’re always in control—so if you ever change your mind, you can unlink your account(s) at any time, and continue to access them through the Gmail app without using Gmailify.

Features of Gmailify

  • Gmail’s spam protection
  • Automatically sorting email based on type (Social, Updates, Promotions)
  • Faster search, with advanced search operators
  • Travel and hotel reservations appearing automatically in Google Now
  • All your mail in one place.
  • Better mail notifications on mobile

How to Enable Gmailify

If you already have a supported non-Gmail account, like Yahoo! Mail, Microsoft Outlook, or Hotmail on the Android Gmail app (Android 4.4+), you can link to Gmail.

  1. On your Android phone or tablet, open the Gmail app.
  2. In the top-left, touch the Menu Menu.
  3. Scroll down and tap Settings.
  4. Tap the non-Gmail account you’d like to link.
  5. Tap Link account.

After you link your email address to Gmail, you’ll see those emails under the linked Gmail address both in the Gmail Android app, and on the web at mail.google.com.

How to De-Link Email Account

If you change your mind, you can always de-link your Email address from Gmail.

  1. On your Android phone or tablet, open the Gmail app.
  2. In the top-left, touch the Menu Menu.
  3. Scroll down and tap Settings.
  4. Tap the Gmail account you’d like to unlink.
  5. Tap Unlink in category Linked Account.

We’ll then ask you if you’d like to keep all the emails that we imported into your Gmail mailbox from your other account.

  • If you remove them from Gmail, they’ll still be in the inbox of your other provider (for example, Outlook or Yahoo! Mail).
  • If you keep them in Gmail, they’ll stay in your Gmail account. However, if you move or delete them in Gmail, these actions won’t be reflected in your other account.

After you unlink your accounts, Gmail will stop showing you new messages from your other account.
