The Taiwanese tech giant, HTC, has fallen upon some hard times these past months. Following the success of the HTC One M8, the One M9 did very little to set itself apart from its predecessor, causing a rapid decline in sales. This continued despite the A9, which did nothing to turn things around. Now 2016 has gotten under way and HTC has remained quiet- at least until now. There are pretty strong rumors popping up that are pointing to HTC’s next flagship offering, the One M10, and if they are true, this is going to be one powerful handset.
The way the rumors are going, it seems that HTC will finally be implementing Quad HD technology into its devices. The M10 is said to be sport a 5.1 inch, Quad HD (2560×1440) AMOLED display. This will bring HTC up to speed with the rest of the competition in terms of display technology, ditching 1080p. Behind that display will the the latest and greatest processor package offered from Qualcomm, the Snapdragon 820 SoC with the Adreno 503 GPU.
This puts it strictly in the premium flagship category. Also, it’s rumored that the M10 will have a home button with a fingerprint sensor built in which is great because… wait… what about the Boom Sound speakers? That’s right, the signature Boom Sound speakers might be tossed for the sake of a fingerprint reader.
This could be polarizing, as there are people who are fans one feature, but not the other. There is no word on whether the design will be different from the One M9. One fault of the M9 is the fact that it looked very similar to its predecessor, so hopefully there will be some changes in the design in order to differentiate it from the past HTC phones.
HTC has grown to be a titan in the mobile technology world; not only a titan, but a veteran. It’s always disheartening to see such an influential company suffer in such a manner, so fingers are crossed to see if this beast of a phone can at least start HTC down the path of recovery. Stay tuned everyone, because when this phone launches, the clock will start ticking.
