2015 was not a good year for HTC. The One M9 did not live up to expectations and it’s been a down hill slope for there. The A9 did spark some interest in the company, but still didn’t do much to turn things around, leaving HTC fans wondering what the Taiwanese giant is going to do next. Well 2016 might yield a few goodies for those waiting on HTC’s next move. There are rumors that HTC will be partnering with Google once more in order to bring two new Nexus devices this year. At this point, details of this partnership and of the phones themselves are foggy. Sources point to one with a 5 inch display and a 5.5 inch display, so maybe a device and a mini version of it.
Whatever the details, this could be very big for HTC. It brought the Nexus name into the world back in 2010 with the Nexus One, and has been a strong presence in the smartphone market ever since. It’s design choices did much to differentiate itself from the competition in the past, but as companies such as Samsung and LG have learned, whatever spurred it to the top in the past has little effect in the present. These two new devices could bring some much needed design changes to HTC’s signature look.
The mobile world has high hopes for HTC and this partnership could bring HTC back from it’s sales slump. As with any rumor, it shouldn’t be taken to heart a hundred percent. The possibility of Google and HTC teaming up again isn’t all too far fetched though, so hang tight and keep those fingers crossed. 2016 is just getting underway and the mobile market is as heated as ever.
