Indian Government new guidelines for Phone Manufacturers

Crime against women in the capital has gone up by 20% this year as compared to 2014, and there has also been a 27% increase in registration of rapes cases.

To Control and avoid , Crime against women in India, Indian Government has taken a good initiative and  laid two mandatory guidelines for phones to be launched in India from 2017 on wards :

  1. All mobile phones sold in India from January 2017 must have a panic button enabling the user to call for help, the government announced.
  2. From January 2018, mobile phones must also have built-in GPS, the ministry of communications and technology said in a statement reported by Reuters.

The keys selected for SOS / Panic button, could be either a separate key , or 5 or 9 dedicated for this purpose, specially mentioning SOS on top of it. The only mistake which Ministry made is for Smartphones ” With smartphones, an emergency call must be triggered when the power button is pressed three times in quick succession”. Ministry has to understand, it’s not an easy task for a women in trouble to press button 3 times, instead in smartphones, a dedicated key can be introduced for Panic Button, which is much easier to operate.

Huawei is the first company which welcomed this decision, and Allen Chang, President Consumer Group , stated ” Huawei R&D center in Bengaluru has already innovated this functionality and Honor smartphones sold in the Indian market already come embedded with a SOS feature. Going ahead, all the smartphones come with in-built GPS for providing location of customer. Last year, we introduced SOS feature in all our smartphones to ensure women safety. The SOS feature which sends instant messages to three pre-set numbers.”

Do we need any further improvement in smartphones to prevent crime against women ?? Please do let us know.
