Indian Smartphone Maxx Mobilink to start local manufacturing
Indian SP Maxx Mobilink is planning to start Mobile manufacturing at Haridwar facility. This plant is basically manufacturing mobile accessories like batteries. The production is expected to start by April.
This is long awaited project of Ajay aggarwal. In Dec 2011 -Ajjay Agarwal stated ” Maxx Group is new to the mobile telephony business but it is already on way to becoming the first homegrown handset company in India to have complete indigenous manufacturing facilities of its own ”
Maxx Mobilink Chairman, Ajjay Aggarwal said ” We will manufacture both, Feature Phone and Smart Phone and set up a R&D facility at the plant”. In the first phase, Maxx may not invest much as plant is already equipped to manufacture Mobile phones but it plans to invest over 5 Crores in R&D facility.
To manufacture its handsets at home, the company has drawn up a blueprint for investment and capacity addition. The company will produce the handsets at its two manufacturing plants in Haridwar spread over a total area of more than 5 lakh sq. ft., which currently crank out more than 80 million units of batteries and 40 million units of chargers annually. According to Agarwal, the two units will begin production by initially churning out three lakh units a month. “By 2014-15, we expect to expand our capacity to manufacture five lakh phones a month and are targeting to produce 600 million units of batteries.”
Micromax is already producing mobiles in India at Rudraprayag, Uttrakhand.
Lava is also planning to start production of mobiles at Noida and has also plans for buying Nokia Chennai plant.
If all the top players in India, starts manufacturing mobile phones ingeniously, it will be a big set back for China market and boost for ” Made in India ” and ” made for India “. Though, Maxx is taking support of Chinese manufacturers to build this facility, Company has big plans for India by entering in Smart Phone market in April. Maxx plans to introduce low end 4G Mobiles.
