Google started Android One Smartphones last year to capture mass market and started working with Indian manufacturers like Micromaxx, Karboon, and Spice.

But this year Google changed the strategy a bit, Selected just one Vendor for Android One. Google target with Android One Smartphones is to make a smartphone under $ 70 and they are well on track to accomplish this Mission.

Though the Initial Android One phone was not at a sucess, hardly reaching a volume of 1.2 million handsets, but it can be majorly because of Companies strategy which failed to promote Android One against other low cost smartphones.

This means Google could achieve only 0.9 % of the market of devices that cost between $50 and $100. Meanwhile, Xiaomi didn’t even break a sweat to score 7.5% of the same market with Redmi models. Micromax owned smartphones very easily crossed 3 million phones a month. On an average, Indian Smartphone market is roughly around 90 Million handsets a year ( 2014 – 88 million smartphones were sold in India ) and this year India has already crossed 70 Million smartphones.

Google needs to understand Dynamics of Indian Smartphone Market, which includes 2400 % growth in LTE Smartphones. In Q3 2015, Indian market saw 10 million LTE Smartphones, that roughly makes it 35 % of Overall Smartphone Market.

Google and India’s Lava International plan to launch a low-cost smartphone in the coming months that gives device makers more flexibility.

Android One has since spread to 19 countries, including Egypt, Turkey, Morocco or Indonesia. Now the new project involves Lava and Google releasing an affordable phone again in the coming months, with a new price approach and looser specs required. One big problem with the first gen Android One phones were the hardware requirements, that were very strict.

It was thus hard for device makers to differentiate, since they all had pretty much the same RAM, screens, cameras and CPUS. Google also required specific suppliers. The new approach offers more variety for each component and it remains to be seen if this time the product will have more success.

What you think, If Android One will be a success like Tizen ??
