Things have been pretty quiet on the Oneplus front for some time, but that changes with a set of decent leaked images released recently. The device is believed to launch soon, so it’s just about time to see some leaks. In this day and age, it’s hard to come up with a completely revolutionary design that’s never been used before, and these leaks are evidence of that. It appears that Oneplus will be using an all metal design for this phone, with some design inspiration from both Apple and HTC. The roundish, minimalist design and the position of the antenna lines are a familiar site and will make it hard to tell this device from the iPhone 6. The squarish camera bump looks like it was copy and paste from the HTC One M9. On the front side, we have a strikingly round home button, which may not be an actual button, but the dimple present on the Oneplus 2. Flanking it will be capacitive buttons. Up top, we see the speaker and not much else. There don’t appear to be any buttons on the right side, so they may be on the left. There seems to be a subtle curve where the glass meets the metal, which is becoming a rather pleasing trend with modern smartphones these days. On the bottom, we have the usual: Single, bottom firing speaker on the left, 3.5mm headphone jack and microphone on the right, and in the middle, we are happy to see what looks to be a USB type C port.
This new design language for One plus seems to be a game changer, but more important than what’s on the outside of this device, is what’s on the inside of it. Oneplus has been known for producing the “Flagship Killer”, but 2015 was the year of the flagship killer. A lot of bang for your buck products were (and are) being made, placing the spotlight on Oneplus to give us a reason to place them at the top of that genre. Time will only tell if they can remain at the top.
