Mediatek Helio X25 16NM Soc revealed – Meizu Pro 6 will be the first smartphone to get X25

Chinese chip maker MediaTek will upgrade its Helio X20 line later this year with a faster Helio X25. The MediaTek Helio X25 was co-developed with Meizu, which will have exclusive use of it and will put it in the Meizu Pro 6.

The chipset is basically an enhanced version of the X20. It has a three cluster design – 2x Cortex A72 cores and two quartets of A53.meizu-x25

The 10-core Helio X20 SoC was introduced last year and the first devices are on the market in China. MediaTek announced at a conference in Shenzhen, China that the will release a faster SoC later this year with the Helio X25. The new X25 would be based on a 16nm technology. The X20 is based on 20nm chip technology.

Taiwanese AppleDaily reports that the Helio X25 would have the same architecture but higher clock rates. The 16nm technology should deliver better thermal performance. There have been reports that the X20 has thermal issue, which MediaTek denied. The clock rates of the two ARM Cortex-A72 cores could increase to 2.7Ghz instead of 2.5Ghz supported on the X20.

The difference with the X20 is that the “Turbo cluster,” the A72 cores, will be clocked higher (2.5GHz, up from 2.3GHz) and so will the GPU (850MHz). Despite these enhancements, the power draw should remain the same.

MediaTek is supposed to work on the Helio X30 that will be based on 10nm technology, leaping the 16nm technological step. The MediaTek Helio X30 is expect to be released in early 2017.

The Good news is Meizu Pro 6 will be the Smartphone to get Helio X25.
