Oneplus is one Company which believe in Innovation and Customer Voice. Last year, Oneplus 2 was highly criticized for missing NFC, Fast Charge and mis-management of Invite System. This year Oneplus Team rectified all the major errors. Hope, every one recalls Oneplus 2 was launched in 2015 as ” Flagship of 2016 “, but in Real sense Oneplus 3 meets the requirements of same.

I will have to rate Oneplus 3 as a Flagship Model of 2016 in this price range, no two doubts on this, Thanks to the 6GB RAM, 64GB Internal memory , NFC and the fast & accurate Fingerprint Scanner. Though Oneplus is also promoting VR Loop aggressively, so I have to point out the missing QHD Display. Otherwise, for me I do not even care if the Display is FHD / QHD, if i get a good Display in Bright Sun Light.

Let’s have a close look at the specs of Oneplus 3 :

                • Optic AMOLED capacitive touchscreen with FHD (401 ppi) 1920 x 1080 pixels resolution
                • 2.2GHz + 1.6GHz Kryo Qualcomm Snapdragon 820 quad core processor, 14nm FinFET technology
                • 6GB LPDDR4 RAM, 64GB internal memory (UFS 2.0 Flash Storage)
                • OxygenOS based on Android Marshmallow 6.0.1
                • 16MP primary camera (f/2.0 Aperture, 1.12 µm Pixels) with high speed autofocus technology (PDAF)
                • Electronic (EIS) and Optical (OIS) stabilization technologies
                • Dual nano-SIM dual-standby (4G+4G) with NFC enabled and reversible type-C connector
                • 3,000 mAh lithium-polymer battery (non-removable)
                • Dash Charge technology (replenish over 60% of the battery within 30 minutes)

                Design & Display

When I saw the back panel, Immediately my mind was occupied with HTC one inspired Design, and front looks like Huawei or iPhone 6S. As a matter of fact, Most of the Smartphones looks same now-a-days because of Uni-body Design and Antenna Technology. LDS Antenna structuring is common in all the latest Smartphones.

The smooth, matte metal back isn’t as unique as the sandpaper-like finish on the OnePlus 2, but the company is selling a case with that finish for the new phone.

When Oneplus launched VR Loop, i was sure Oneplus 3 will have QHD Display, but seeing the Technical specs, Battery power  and price point, Oneplus compromised on the Display.

Just to recall Oneplus 2 got IPS LCD Display, while Oneplus 3 is on Optic AMOLED Display. The impact is in terms of Sharpness and Vivid Live Colors, Blacks are especially deep, and whites are pretty crisp by default.

Oneplus 3 got a good feature ” Proximity wake up ”  waking up Smartphone with hand gesture , Slight catch is, it does not capture fast motion, you have to wave your hand slowly for detection.

Physical placement of Buttons is easily accessible, On the right edge is toggle. You can not only slide this to turn notifications on and off, but also to turn on priority notifications. Below the display, the home button doubles as a fingerprint sensor, and on the bottom edge are the speaker, headphone jack and USB Type-C port for charging.

Do I need to add some spice here, One plus has already done the Job. With 6GB RAM, Snapdragon 820, 2.2 GHz….what’s left in the pocket of Oneplus.

Whether it’s Gaming or Multi-tasking, you will have teh Ultimate pleasure. Only issue which you may feel is the ” Vibration ” and the ” Heating Up “. It’s all together a personal experience for Vibration. Some persons love solid Vibration, some may like Light.

When you use 5 Devices with Snapdragon 820 and 4GB RAM, and one Device with Snapdragon 820 and 6GB RAM, definitely the difference is there. Most of the time, you have to clear the RAM. Where all you will feel the difference :

                • Device Boot up Time
                • Opening an App like Google Now or App Drawer

When it comes to Benchmark Testing, Definitely Oneplus 3 has out ranked most of the Flagship Smartphones like Galaxy S7 / G5 / HTC 10 / Nexus 6P.

Like OnePlus 2, 3 also runs OnePlus’ own Android mod, Oxygen OS. OnePlus has much more customization options as compared to Stock Android like Dark theme, Icon size, and better multitasking options. Oxygen OS is basically Android Marshmallow, the current release of Android, but with some small tweaks to the user interface.

In addition, you will get OnePlus’ signature Shelf feature : Shelf is basically an extra homepage that gives you access to your recent apps, favorite contacts and any other widgets you want to add.

When you swipe to right from your home screen, you will get the date, local weather, recently used apps and contacts. You also get access to Quick Memo for leaving Notes.

                Customization options include :

                • Modify Android’s accent color
                • Icons packs
                • the notification LED’s color
                • Night Mode to reduce strain
                • Home and capacitive buttons allocation : long-pressed and double-tapped
                • you can turn off Capacitive Touch completely and use on-screen buttons
                • Drawing gestures on the screen
                • When you Enable Gesture : draw a circle to launch the camera, and doodling a V for flashlight

Like Oneplus 2 camera, which got fast Laser Auto Focus, and crisp and clear Images. Oneplus 3 camera won’t let you down. This is the part, I must appreciate Oneplus has worked hard. In well-lit situations, colors are lively ( especially the white hues), and objects are sharp and in focus. In dimmer settings or environments with Slight Trick , photos can be properly exposed.

I do not expect very high picture quality in Dark Mode, when it comes to Smartphone Cameras. It’s always Hit & Trial Mode. But for NIght, I always suggest every one to go for Manual Mode. More over Oneplus 3 gives you option of RAW Images which can be edited easily.

The only issue which I would like to emphasize here is ” Camera Design “. I always hate Protruding Camera Design, as it tends to get lot of scratches.

On papers, some persons may feel ” size of the sensor’s pixels is reduced from 1.3 microns to 1.12 microns “, but does it really make any difference. At the end of the day, the OnePlus 3 Rear camera may not be a tough competition for Samsung, but it won’t let you down ( considering the Price Point ).

                Audio and Battery

Oneplus 3 is missing the MaxxAudio equalizer what we got in Oneplus 2. What it means : you can’t tweak audio levels right out of the box. Oneplus 3 got a bottom mounted Single speaker, still the Audio is very much clear. And you can go for a high level of Volume, but like other Smartphones, You may have to compromise on the sound quality little bit.

Audio call quality is also satisfactory, with the call speaker producing warm tones even at higher volumes, thanks to the Noise cancellation.

In the Battery Area, you might have noticed, Oneplus 3 got a lower battery ( 3000 mAh ) as compared to Oneplus 2 ( 3300 mAh ). But, the major improvement came in the form of Quick Charge which was badly missed in Oneplus 2.

On the Benchmarks, Battery performance has disappointed little. In the standard video Loop on Wi-fi and with brightness level to almost 50 %, the OnePlus managed to get a time of little less than 10 hours.

Key question, which every one is asking for : What is Dash Charge ? If you recall, Oppo VOOC Flash charge, it is almost same.  In VOOC, you use 4A with 5V, which actually charges faster without getting the Smartphone heated up, as compared to high Voltage Charging wherein Device tends to get heater.

So the two benefits are main :

                • Fast charge without heating up
                • Charge the Device while playing or using

But the key point in OP3 is the Cable used. you can not use Dash Charge with any other Cable.

                Final Words

All impressive, Except my expectation of QHD Display. But , there is a good saying ” Nothing is perfect “, and same goes with Smartphones. You got a good price and impressive specs at the cost of QHD Display.

Though, I been calling Oneplus 3 as Flagship of 2016, but in Real sense ” It’s a good competition for Flagship Smartphones“. Oneplus 3 is a balanced Smartphone with the highest level of Hardware features.

                At Rs 27,999, Definitely it’s a Steal.

                • The OnePlus 3’s metal unibody is carved from a single slab of premium aluminum, resulting in an ultra-thin design with a satisfying, solid build. Super battery life, camera, display, processor and sensors all are the great of this smartphone OnePlus 3.
