Sanjay Kapoor is stepping down as Chairman of Micromax India, Sanjay Kapoor joined in June 2014
As reported by ET, Micromax Email stated ” Sanjay Kapoor has decided to move on “. The conflicts have been there between Kapoor and Management over the Strategy and Overseas Business.
Though Micromax has not revealed any concrete reason for Mr. kapoor exit, but in an Email to ET, Micromax stated ” Appropriate announcements will be made in due time. We would like to thank him for his contribution, and wish him luck for all his future of endeavors. ”
Sanjay Kapoor’s main role was to strengthen Companies position in Smartphones and spread Overseas business in Emerging Countries spread across Middle East and Africa, Russia and development of new product portfolio apart from Devices. But over the time Micromax has failed to strengthen this area.
Sanjay kapoor’s opinion was to strengthen Online Sales and emerge Micromax as an Premier Player in Smartphones, but Management wanted to stick to Traditional Channel which contributes to almost 70 % of Micromax Sales ( not mentioning Yu which is purely Online Model ), and Micromax has always grown as Mass market product ( Value for money ).
Though in betweeb, Micromax gained No. 1 slot for couple of months in Smartphones, but in 2015, Micromax has been loosing a lot. The basic reason been poor service back up and commitment by Micromax. Management has been focusing on Products, instead of strengthening key areas like Service and Consumer.
In that last One year, Micromax has lost major share to Xiaomi and mainly to Intex which managed to capture almost 9 % Market share within a short span of time.
But, seeing the above scenarios and market situation, Is it the end of Micromax as Number 1 Indian player !! Another key point is ” Soon we will see the exit of Mr. Vineet Taneja also ” !!!
