How to set up Carplay with iPhone and commands for car play

carplay

With select cars and stereos, you can use CarPlay to get directions, Show Maps, make calls, send and receive messages, Siri and Play Music on Compatible Car Dash Player. Even the New cars manufactured are supporting Car Play feature.

Here’s what you need to use CarPlay

  • You need an iPhone 5 or later with iOS 7.1 or later.
  • Make sure that Siri is turned on. Go to Settings > General > Siri.
  • Make sure that you’re in an area that supports CarPlay.

How to Set Up car Play – USB / Bluetooth

  1. Make sure that CarPlay supports your car or stereo.
  2. Plug your iPhone into the CarPlay USB port. The USB port might be labeled with a CarPlay icon or a smartphone icon.
If the CarPlay Home screen doesn’t appear, select the CarPlay logo on your car’s display.

    • For Bluetooth setup: choose “Turn on Bluetooth” and then press and hold the cars voice control / Siri / CarPlay button on the steering wheel to begin the CarPlay setup process
  3. Make sure that your car is running.
  4. Ask Siri for what you need. You can do this in a few ways:
    • Press and hold the Home button on your iPhone until Siri appears on your stereo display. Then ask what you need.
    • If your car has one, press and hold the Voice Control button on your steering wheel. Then ask what you need.

If CarPlay doesn’t work like you expect, here’s what you can check. After each step, try using CarPlay again.

  1. Make sure that Siri is turned on.
  2. Restart your iPhone and your car.
  3. Depending on your car, you might see the CarPlay Home screen when you turn it on.
  4. If you don’t, look for the CarPlay logo on your car’s display.
  5. If possible, connect your iPhone to a different USB port in your car.
  6. Try a different Lightning to USB cable. Make sure the cable is certified.
  7. Update to the latest version of iOS.
  8. Check your car’s manual for help. You might need to install firmware updates for your stereo.

Once the CarPlay setup is complete, you can interact with it like you do with your iPhone, except it’s in the car dash display unit. Summon Siri and use anything from the big list of Siri commands available, whether it’s directions, sending messages, making calls, playing music, or just general inquiries.
