Xiaomi Owner Lei Jun says big No to Water Proof Xiaomi Smartphones

For those, who lost the Smartphone because of water, may it’s Rain or Shower or the most possible scenario, Flushed in Toilet. The next purchase definitely goes for Water proof or water resistant smartphones, which may be a Motorola or Sony or Samsung.

But, Let’s have a look at one fact, How many Smartphones are really repaired with such an issue of Water. If the problem is so big, every manufacturer might have opted for IP68 certification in every Flagship Smartphone, but the fact is ” No “, mainly for cheap smartphone manufacturers like Xiaomi or LeECO or may be Vivo or Oppo or Gionee.

Let’s have a look at what Xiaomi Lei Jun has to say about this :

Why Xiaomi : Because the Products are far cheaper than the competitive smartphones. Xiaomi would eventually lose all of its Main Moto of price competitiveness if it started to add additional features like Water proof. Though some persons do claim Technically it increases the cost of manufacturing by almost 20 %.

Well components may or may not contribute to the cost, but paying the Royalty for patents also adds to the cost.

Another key point which comes in the picture is, How Waterproof Smartphones are manufactured : for a smartphone to be waterproof, the device’s internals themselves should not come into contact with any water body. Manufacturers like Samsung and others have started to push out handsets that come with an IP68 certification, but in order to maintain that certification, the internals such as the connectivity ports usually come with a rubber seal in order to prevent water from seeping inside.

Let’s take a Live example of Sony Xperia Smartphones : With Sony’s Xperia phones, frequent and repeated use of a flap would typically weaken the plastic “hinge” that tethers it to the product. After enough wear and tear, the panel cover might fall off entirely, thus causing a major problem to be had. The same is also true for  Samsung’s Galaxy S5, which also used a flap to cover the USB port.

But Lei Jun even said ” Xiaomi is ready to make Waterproof Smartphones, If Customers are willing to pay for the extra cost and Demand of water proof smartphones becomes a Deal cracker”.

What you think ” Is Water proofing a Real Deal cracker for Smartphones ” ?
